Biography

Greg Shatan is a Partner in Moses Singer's Intellectual Property, Entertainment/Media & Technology practice group.

Mr. Shatan focuses on intellectual property and technology transactions, cybersecurity and data privacy, counseling and litigation relating to web accessibility under the ADA, Internet and domain name law and policy, and trademark licensing, protection and enforcement. Greg works with clients in diverse industries, most notably sports, media and entertainment, financial services, technology and online services, apparel and accessories, and consumer goods.

Greg’s transactional experience runs the gamut from mergers and acquisitions, IP asset monetization and technology transactions, to trademark and copyright licensing and celebrity licensing, endorsements and sponsorships.

In technology transactions he regularly represents clients in vendor agreements, such as licensing, cloud/SaaS, outsourcing and consulting agreements, as well as development, maintenance, support, hosting and other agreements. He has also handled numerous licensing, endorsement, sponsorship, distribution, marketing, and franchising agreements. Greg also works with clients on terms of use, privacy policies and social media policies.

Greg has worked on hundreds of purchase, merger, roll-up, spin-out, joint venture and other acquisitions, including both large corporate transactions and acquisitions of IP and technology rights and assets. 

Greg collaborates with clients in connection with online privacy, data protection, data breach, and cybersecurity matters.  He provides comprehensive guidance on data protection regulations ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations. He assists clients in taking a proactive approach to risk management by drafting data protection policies as well as reviewing existing agreements to identify and remedy potential risks and liabilities. In the event that a data breach occurs, Greg offers swift and strategic guidance to help mitigate damages and implement measures to minimize the risk of future breaches.

He helps companies navigate the legal, regulatory, business and technical landscape of Web Accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other related laws: the obligation to make most websites and mobile applications accessible to individuals with vision, hearing, motor and cognitive disabilities. This includes litigation, counseling and compliance matters.

Greg's practice includes a significant focus on Internet and domain name law and policy and online media counseling and enforcement. He provides strategic advice and assistance with domain name and social media portfolios and the acquisition and transfer of domain names through various processes. Greg regularly assists clients with online policing and enforcement of their IP rights, using a variety of methods to remove offending and infringing uses from the Internet. Greg helps shape global domain name policy as an active participant in the ICANN process; he has attended over 10 ICANN meetings.
