Moses Singer Advises on Innovative Rights Transaction for Broadway Musical Hell’s Kitchen
Moses & Singer LLP is pleased to have been counsel for the principal in an innovative transaction involving Hell’s Kitchen, the award winning hit Broadway musical inspired by the life and music of 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist Alicia Keys.
As reported by Deadline in “Innovative Rights Deal Paves Way For ‘Immediate Capital Return’ To Broadway Investors In Alicia Keys Musical ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’” independent entertainment rights company Ovation Rights has entered into a long-term partnership with Alicia Keys to acquire economic interests in the musical previously held by the musical’s original Broadway production company. The transaction is designed to provide the production’s investors with an immediate return of capital, rather than requiring them to wait for future distributions over many years.
Moses Singer attorneys Jeff Davis and Sarah (“Sadie”) Salvia served as co-counsel with Bob Harris and Scott Lazarus of Lazarus & Harris LLP, who represented the production and its general manager, Foresight Theatrical, in connection with the transaction. The deal highlights both firms’ experience advising clients on sophisticated corporate transactions at the intersection of entertainment, intellectual property, and business.
