Devika said professional conduct rules require lawyers "to constantly stay on top and continuously monitor the technology to see whether they are complying with that need to assess the benefits and the risks" associated with the lawyer’s duty of technological competence. She was one of three panelists at a New York City Bar Association program on ethics and cybersecurity held February 27, 2024. The program addressed the legal and ethical obligations of lawyers to protect both their clients’ and their own organization’s information, especially when that data is digital and stored in their laptop, cellphone or cloud server.
