Bill Tanenbaum was a panelist for the keynote presentation titled, 'Changes in AI Policy and Regulation: Balancing Innovation, Risks, and Rewards' at the Data Governance & Information Quality Conference.
The panel suggested that the purpose of AI Governance should be to enhance AI's impact by improving quality, safety, and reliability, while at the same time minimizing risks and ensuring that AI systems behave ethically and without bias. At the level of government policy and regulation, numerous AI laws and frameworks have been implemented and more are coming. When effective, this regulation will help to create trust, increase adoption, and give developers a strong foundation upon which to build with confidence. Conversely, if implemented poorly, it will create confusion and stifle innovation, while doing little to reduce risks.
