David Rabinowitz will be presenting 'Copyright 101' in conjunction with the MLRC Media Law 101 and 201 series. Copyright 101 will acquaint lawyers and non-lawyers with the basic legal principles underlying copyright. We will cover what copyright is, what is copyrightable, and how a copyright is obtained. We will cover rights and remedies of a copyright owner and certain exceptions to or limitations on rights under copyright. In particular, we will explore the right of fair use, an exception to rights under copyright and the subject of a recent Supreme Court case. We will also discuss the effect that copyright has on the internet.
