An article titled, "Too Close For Comfort: Client-Lawyer Relationships" was published in the October 2014 issue of the New York State Bar Journal, co-authored by Devika Kewalramani, Alexandra Farber and Robert D. Argen. It highlights the extremely important yet infrequently discussed ethics rules in New York regarding restrictions on sexual relationships between attorneys and their clients. The article offers an exploration of the history of these rules and the policies underlying their adoption, and engages in a textual analysis of the rules and their interplay with other New York ethics rules and those of the ABA and other states. Ultimately, it serves as a warning to lawyers and law firms alike to be cautious in their interpersonal relationships with clients.
